What is Valverde Neighborhood Association?
A neighborhood association or Registered Neighborhood Organization (RNO) serves as a link between residents, city representatives and local services. Most neighborhoods in Denver have an RNO, and with so much change happening in Denver, Valverde residents established our association in 2016 to gather neighbors together to talk about and advocate for issues that affect us, and to keep residents informed about happenings and resources within the city and Valverde.
Valverde Neighborhood Association is a nonprofit for neighbors and by neighbors. Please visit our contact page to let us know if you're interested in becoming more involved with the association.
As an RNO, we receive updates from the city, for example planning, development and license applications within Valverde, and from organizations around Denver who want to share resources residents can take advantage of. We can also plan events and projects to build community and improve our neighborhood. We also have people who lead and work in specific areas they care about that are called passion projects.
In order to be a member, you must be 18 or older, and there is an optional $10/year per household membership fee. If you're unable to pay the fee, please contact us and we will coordinate an optional hour of volunteer service in exchange for membership. We collect fees to support meeting and project expenses, and the first members helped us become established as a nonprofit with the state and the IRS (~$150 and $400). With nonprofit status, we can apply for grants to fund larger projects and improvements in the neighborhood.
We also encourage residents to join our newsletter and/or Valverde Community Group on Facebook for updates and discussions between meetings.
We look forward to meeting you in the neighborhood or at our next meeting!
